Gully rules
Unequal teams, single-side batting, common players and the rest of the street rulebook.
Single-side batting: scoring with one batter at a time
Turn on Single-side batting in Gully Rules during match setup. One batter bats alone — no non-striker, no strike rotation, no partnerships. When they are out, the next batter comes in alone.
All the gully rules in the app — what each toggle does
Open Gully Rules on the match setup screen. Full Match has nine toggles across Squad & Teams, Batting Format and Scoring; Quick Match has the three scoring rules. Turn on the ones your ground plays by.
Last man standing: letting the final batter bat alone
Turn on Last man standing in Gully Rules during Full Match setup. When the ninth wicket falls, the last batter carries on alone instead of the innings ending — the true gully way to finish an innings.
Playing with unequal teams (7 vs 8 is fine)
Turn on Start with unequal teams in Gully Rules, and the Full Match setup stops requiring matching player counts. Each side is simply all out on its own squad size.
The common player: one player on both teams
In Full Match setup, use the Common player row in Gully Rules to pick one player who plays for both sides. They can bat and bowl for either team, and their career still counts as one player.
Adding a player who turns up mid-match
With Players can join mid-match on, every batter and bowler picker has an Add player button — add the latecomer to either team while the match is running, and they can bat or bowl straight away.
Moving, swapping or removing a player mid-match
With Players can switch mid-match on, tap a team name while scoring to open the squads. Anyone who hasn't batted or bowled yet can be moved to the other team, swapped, or removed if they have to leave.
Turning off the extra run for wides and no-balls
Turn on No runs for wides & no-balls in Gully Rules. The delivery is still re-bowled, but no penalty run is added — the classic tape-ball convention where extras don't cost runs.
Turning off free hits
Turn on No free hits in Gully Rules and a no-ball is just a no-ball — re-bowled, with its penalty if that rule is on, but the next delivery is an ordinary ball.
Changing the total overs after the match has started
Turn on Change overs mid-match in Gully Rules, then tap the pencil on the overs counter while scoring. Works during the first innings only — once the chase starts, the target is fixed.
Which gully rules work in Quick Match vs Full Match?
Quick Match has the three scoring rules: no runs for wides and no-balls, no free hits, and mid-match overs. The six squad-based rules — common player, unequal teams, late joiners, mid-match switches, last man standing and single-side batting — need named players, so they are Full Match only.
