Changing Overs Mid-Match: Cutting a Gully Cricket Game Short

It was an eight-over game. Then the sun went down.

The ruleChanging overs mid-match lets you cut or extend a gully cricket match after it has started, usually because of light, rain or a turf booking. It only works in the first innings. Once the chase begins, the overs and the target are fixed, so nobody changes the game halfway through a run chase.

Why only the first innings

Change the overs during the first innings and both teams still get the same number. Change them during the chase and you've changed the target after one team has already batted, which is a different match. Professional cricket needs rain rules and a spreadsheet to handle that (Duckworth–Lewis–Stern). Gully cricket has a simpler rule: decide before the chase starts.

The box cricket version

On a booked turf the clock is the umpire. An hour is an hour. If the first innings has dragged because of a lost ball and a run of wides, the overs come down so the second innings can finish before the next group walks in with their own kit bags.

    On the setup screen, open Gully Rules and switch on Change overs mid-match.

    While scoring the first innings, tap the pencil on the overs counter.

    Pick the new total and save. You can't go below the overs already bowled.

Questions people ask

Can you change the overs during a cricket match?

In gully and box cricket, yes, as long as it's during the first innings. Once the second innings starts the target is set, so the overs should stay fixed.

How do you reduce overs in a gully cricket match?

Both captains agree a new total during the first innings, and the chase is played over the same number of overs. The new total can't be lower than the overs already bowled.

Can overs be changed in the second innings?

Not fairly without a rain-rule calculation like Duckworth–Lewis–Stern, because one team has already batted. Gully Crix only allows it in the first innings.
